Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV)

Our Wheelchair accessible cars are designed to accommodate a wheelchair in safety & comfort.

This service is designed to fill the gap between our Ring & Ride service & our Voluntary car schemes.

It is intended for use by passengers who need to use a wheelchair or who find getting in or out of a car difficult or impossible.

The car is driven by both employees and volunteers.

Who can use the WAV?

Frail, elderly, rurally isolated or people with a disability who find public transport difficult to use.

Passengers may bring a Escort free of charge

The Scheme can also be used by individuals and community groups wanting to get passengers who need to use accessible transport out and about , this can be a self drive hire (full training will be given)or we can provide a driver.

Where can i go?

Our Wheelchair accessible Car scheme can be used for many appointments such as, Hospital, Doctors, Hairdressers, Shopping or just general social visits.

Arrange a journey

If you are calling to use the Tiverton Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle, call us on 01884 242099. If you are calling to use the Crediton Wheelchair accessible vehicle please call 01363 773303.

Tiverton & Crediton offices are open Monday to Friday 9am to4:30pm, If we are unable to take your call please leave your name and telephone number and we will ring back. Please try to give at least 24 hours notice.

Arrangements will be confirmed by telephone including the name of the driver and the approximate cost calculated on miles and hours travelled.

The co-ordinator can give a quotation before you travel if requested.

Fares and payments

Minimum charges per journey

A Town to Town return journey is 10 + vat (12.00) return within 2 hours.

For all journeys over 3 miles, passengers are charged a mileage rate of 90p per mile and a minumem charge of 5 each way plus vat.

A Drivers Charge of 8.50 per hour may be applicable

Full payment should be made directly to the driver. A receipt will be issued for every journey. Invoices can be arranged prior the journey.

Other payments

Charges are reviewed annually in June.
